About
Creating Art from Outer Space.

Mitch Hollingsworth is a freelance artist from Waukegan, Illinois. He received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign in 1993. He moved to the city of Chicago for two years continuing his craft while working at a blues club in the south Loop and living in a cold water flat. Naturally, the notion of warm air and non-grey skies arose, so he packed up his brushes and headed south.

For the last 15 years he has been living in Key West, Florida running the gamut of outlets the island has to offer. Starting with displaying work at the outdoor Sunset Celebration that happens nightly on Mallory Square before moving on to being a frequent contributor to the Woodenhead Gallery and a solo show at the 3 Legged Dog gallery. An art fellowship in 1999, from the Austrian government, took him to Slovenia where he painted in an old fortress-village as part of a cultural exchange for two months. Upon returning he opened his own gallery/shop space on Petronia Street in Key West, where he found he had a taste for custom projects as people brought in objects and whatnot to have enhanced. This led to the opening of ArtzillaDesign which offered custom interiors, faux finishes and furniture conversions.

These days, he has returned his attention into the studio, having just finished as a contributing artist to the Milwaukee Art Museum's Dia De los Muertos yearly event, with continued involvement for next year, as well as upcoming shows in December 2011 and May 2012 at Art Space Key West.
